Open Campus
What is Open Campus?
Tallgrass’s Open Campus policy allows students to come and go freely during the school day once they have been certified to do so.
There are multiple levels of certifications for Open Campus privileges, ranging from “Churchyard” to “Everywhere”.
How does one get certified?
Any student can get certified to go off campus as long as they take the following steps:
1) Ask a staff member to help them get certified.
2) Answer a series of questions for their respective level of certification (for example: What steps would you take if you got lost? or How do you properly read a street sign?).
3) Go outside with a staff member to see where the boundaries are for their level of certification.
4) Follow the proper Open Campus rules when they are officially certified. This means using our sign out sheet to let us know when they leave/return and where they are going.
What if I'm not comfortable with my student going off campus?
If parents are uncomfortable with their student participating in our open campus policy, they should make arrangements directly with their child. The school does not enforce parental restrictions on students once they have mastered and understood the requirements for each level of Open Campus Certification.
